Old Carcassonne is an old fortified city in the department of Aude in the region of Occitanie in the south of France.
In 1991, we were on our way south for a quick side tour into Spain when we stopped off to see Carcassonne.
Although it was off-season, we found the walled city unique enough to make a last minute change of plans.
It was a bit awkward because we didn't speak much French, and the locals didn't want to speak English.
Still, in all, it was a very interresting visit and we returned again in 1994 at the time of their huge Cipango historic reinactment.
