travel united states wyoming wind river pack trips

Wyoming's Wind River Range was the location of my first true pack trip in 1967.
I went with my then future wife, Leslie, and her brother and we packed in without horses.
In 1974, we had a large group of people and had the advantage of pack horses to carry much of the gear.
Later, I returned for another trip on foot with my then wife, Leslie.
The take off point for this pack trip is Moccasin Lake in the Wind River Reservation, several miles off paved highways into the Wind River Range on switch-back gravel roads.
From Moccasin Lake, to the best of my memory, we hiked in about nine or ten miles to an area beyond Grave Lake.

Hurrying along at the head of the group, we managed to take a wrong turn...
It started to snow... talk about your nightmares...
With the use of our topographic map, we worked out our location
and found our way back to the staging site at Moccasin Lake... lesson learned.

The photo that was going to be my favorite wall poster... too bad it was out of focus.
