The long Astoria-Megler Bridge is a steel cantilever through truss structure crossing the Columbia River only 14 miles from it's mouth on the Pacific Ocean.
The height near the Astoria shore allows the passage of larger ocean-going ships providing access to Portland ports, Oregon.
