ARCHITECT: JULIA MORGAN

I have probably visited the Hearst Castle well over a half dozen times in the last fifty years.
This seasonal "ranch house" of William Randolf Hearst is always interesting to see because of its unique architecture and location.
Architect Julia Morgan's work is not exceptional for its originality of design, but for the superb job that was done creating a "living museum" for Hearst's vast collections
of historical artwork, sculpture, and architectural elements from around the world.
It is truly amazing how Morgan was able to put them all together in a workable and enchanting plan one never tires of visiting.
Our most recent visit was on the evening tour which I found, probably, one of the most interesting of all my trips...
both because of the time of enchanting time of day, a third floor visit (new for me), and the presence of the period-dressed characters roaming the grounds.
In the twilight of the day, one can almost imagine how it felt to be one of Hearst's guests back in the 30s.
