travel europe germany schleswig holstein lubeck rathaus platz

According to guide books, the Rathaus, in the Rathaus Platz, traces its origins to 1230 but has been rebuilt many times.
Parts of the original structure remain in the vaulting and Romanesque pillars in the cellar and Gothic south wall.
The towering walls have been constructed with open-air medallions to relieve wind pressure and weight on the Gothic-arcaded ground floor and foundations.
