travel europe germany bavaria rothenburg ob der tauber zur holl

We made reservations for dinner here many weeks in advance to celebrate my granddaughter's birthday.
Zur Holl was located on a side street that was currently torn up and barricaded for public service work so the first impression was not the best.
However, we were escorted to the 900 year old private dining area in the "basement" of this house that was once a blacksmith's shop.
The atmosphere was great... a candle-lit rough brick room with a vaulted ceiling and blacksmith's tools and ironworks on the wall.
The table was made out of a giant set of bellows.
They were very busy and the service, although very pleasant and gracious, was slow.
I was well aware that the restaurant was highly rated on the internet and had already picked out my meal based on photos I had seen.
I ordered the pork spare ribs and salad and my wife ordered a pasta dish with large prawns.
She said her dish was very good. I tasted one of her prawns and it was fresh and succulent.
On the otherhand, my spare ribs were good... but not the excellence I had expected.
The meat and salad were fresh and nicely prepared, but the dipping sauce reminded me of ketchup.
While the atmosphere was nice, the prices fair, and my wife's meal very good, mine was just good.
Since everyone else in our family (and those on the internet) enjoyed their meal, perhaps I expected too much.
