The Schoelcher Library, named after abolitionist Victor Schoelcher who donated about 9,000 books, was designed by Architect Pierre-Hennri Picq.
The library was considered an avant-garde building for its time.
It has been a scheduled historic monument since 1973.
It is well worth a visit for its unusual design.
