travel the caribbean martinique fort-de-france saint louis cathedral
ARCHITECT: PIERRI-HENRI PICQ (1895)
The Saint Louis Cathedral in was built in a Gothic Revival style with Neo-Romanesque rounded arches and is a landmark on the city skyline of Fort-de-France.
Completed in 1895, the architect was said to have been inspired by Gustave Eifel and is said to have been labelled "the religious centerpiece" of Martinique.
The Cathedral underwent extensive restoration and refurbishment in the 1970s.
On the afternoon we visited, the Cathedral was closed so we didn't get a chance to see the interior.
