The Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, a major Shinto shrine, is famous for its thousands of torii ceremonial gates.
This shrine is the head shrine of the kami (god) Inari and sits at the base of mountain called Inariyama.
Originally and primarily the kami of rice and agriculture, merchants and manufacturers also worship Inari as the patron of business.
Foxes are the messengers of Inari and are represented in statues and artwork around the grounds.
