travel asia china guilin reed flute cave

While these caves were as interesting as many others I have visited, I was struck by the lack of maintenance and oversight.
Unlike other caverns I have visited, there was little attempt to discourage touching the formations or keeping on a tight path.
The most I learned from the visit was not about the cave, but about the structure of Chinese society at this time and place in history.
While most people we met were curious and relatively friendly, the young soldiers visiting the caves with their dates, were openly belligerent.
They made a point of shoving and pushing their way around the crowds, smoking and throwing their cirgarette butts at will, and, in general,
trying to show a great sense of superiority with little or no regard for the other visitors, especially us, the only Caucasians in the crowd.
