The Pachacamac Distict, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) southeast of Lima, includes the Valley of the Lurin River and the Pachacamac pre-Inca ruins.
It was first settled around AD 200 and named for the "Earth Maker" creator god Pacha Kamaq.
