The ruins of this ancient hub on the Silk Road are vast, and the stories of this bustling old city are fascinating...
from the sea that used to come right up to the roadway at the base of the amphitheater,
to the tunnel between the library and the brothel...
Here, we learned that Turkish coins were currently so worthless that they were drilled and used for buttons.
Here, the local women didn't charge tourists to use the toilets... they sold sheets of toilet paper... it was just as effective.
