travel europe italy veneto venice parish di santa maria formosa
ARCHITECT: MAURO CODUSSI (1492)

Parish di Santa Maria Formosa was erected in 1492 on the site of a former church dating from the 7th century.
The plan is on the Latin cross with a nave and two aisles.
A Renaissance style facade facing the channel, and a Baroque facade facing the square were commissioned in 1542.
I have not visited the interior of the church.
On our 1994 visit, we stayed nearby in a small hotel and passed through the large piazza often.
The large piazza can be busy, but, more often than not, we found it quite quiet.
