One of the last stops for the vaparetto that crosses the lagoon is the colorful island of Burano.
A trip to Burano is a delight for any architect, historian or artist.
Compared to Venice, it is a simple island that seems to reflect how life was really lived by common Venezians.
The island, like Venice, is virtually flat land recovered from the muddy lagoon.
The architecture consists of simple stucco structures rarely exceeding two or three floors.
While ther are narrow lanes, most of the spaces between houses and along canals seem wider than Venice.
The signiture of the island arew the multi-colored homes and businesses that add vibrant life to their simple nature.
Whatever the reason, Burano is a great break from the pushing crowds in Venice and a look at the life of a more common man of Venezia.
Take the time for a nice cooling relaxing vaparetto ride to Burano.
However, you better hury, Burano has been "discovered" and the crowds are growing...
