travel europe italy lazio rome colosseum

We visited the Colosseum first in 1978 and returned again in 1984, 1994, 1999, and 2017.
The most noticeable changes over the years came in non-architectural areas.
In 1994, we noticed that the police were in the process of removing the begging gypsies from around the Colosseum.
In 1999, the addition of organized college student guides at reasonable prices was a nice addition.
Over the years we also noted that the cat population, though still large, seemed greatly reduced.
