travel europe italy lazio tivoli villa d'este

Tivoli, a town and commune in central Italy about 19 miles from Rome on the Aniene River.
In 1978, we took an evening tour of Villa d'Este, a 16th century villa famous for its terraced hllside.
We walked the gardens and saw the fountains as dusk fell and the lights came on.
We were told the fountains were all gravity fed, an amazing design for its time.
The Villa is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
