travel europe italy campania pompeii around

I noticed a lot of differences between my visit in 1978 and my visit in 2013...
Many of the areas of the city that were overgrown with weeds had been cleared and some of the adjoining ruins had been partially rebuilt.
There seemed to be a large number of streets that had been opened to pedestrian traffic and well maintained.
At the same time, some of the areas that were open to the public in 1978 were now closed off to the public.
And, there were many more exihibits of artifacts. Obviously, the work continues...

This was the first time I saw the use of these pedestrian stepping stones in the stone streets that allowed
for people to cross the street without stepping into the mud and filth generated by horse and cart traffic.
