travel europe greece athens around the city

When I visit a historic city, like Athens, I often like to get up early, and explore the awakening streets before they are filled with locals and tourists.
Having done this, I have fond memories for the feel of the city.
Travel is the best education you can get. One of my most prominent memories of this city has to do with my own naivete...
While wondering the streets taking pictures, I was approached by a local Greek who greeted me as a visitor and talked to me about relatives he had in the US.
After a few minutes, he said he would like to buy me a drink, and invited me to follow him to his "bar."
I told him I didn't drink, but he offered orange juice instead.
He led me down a maze of alleyways to a small bar that didn't look much different than any other in the world.
He excused himself for a moment, and I suddenly found myself standing next to a young lady who aggressively sought my company.
I'm a bit slow, but eventually I did see the light.... and embarrassingly excused myself, a bit wiser... a bit less naive.
