travel germany mecklenburg warnamunde

Warnamunde in the German state of Mecklenburg was the cruise ship docking for Berlin a couple hours to the south.
Instead of buying land excursions on a bus for both Lynn and I, we decided to spend the same money and reserve a car to drive down to Berlin for the day.
I was very familiar with Germany's autobahns from previous trips and, aside from the congestion around Berlin, we really enjoyed the beautiful drive through the countryside.
Berlin was hosting a world marathon that day and the crowds were huge but managable... most people were lining the marathon route.
I was able to reprogram the gps system in the car to English and it allowed us to avoid a major traffic jam for the marathon by cutting across Berlin.
After a full day in Berlin, we visited Rostock on the way back and still were able to explore Warnamunde by car late in the afternoon before sailing.
Warnamunde seemed to be a prosperous resort town for Germans with many restaurants and streets full of newer small hotels and apartments.

We splurged on this beautiful BMW cabriolet instead of paying more for a guided bus tour on a bus down to Berlin for the day.
Aside from the company double-charging for the gas (which we later rectified), everything went great.
