The guides tell us that in earlier ages Brugge used to be on the sea. Now it is several miles from Brugge to the coastal resort of Zeebrugge.
This resort has the distinctive feel of Europe... much different from most of the seaside resorts I have visited in North America.
The highrise waterfront is quite impersonal and feels very commercial as opposed to an old world seaside resort.
