These workmen seemed to be moving an old building by hand, one stone at a time, Guilin, China, 1991.
When this picture was taken, they were much more interrested in us than their work.

Unlike any other structure in the countryside, this large building stood out as one of a kind.
On the country road not too far from here, I biked past an elderly gentleman in a beautifully tailored light blue Mao suit.
He smiled, waved, and proudly proclaimed in English, "Happy New Year!," which it was.
He was slightly taken aback when I waved back saying hello in Mandarin, one of the few phrases I had memorized phonetically.

This "truck" was the only motorized vehicle we saw being used by local workers.

This was a brick kiln we saw biking on the outskirts of Guilin, China, 1991.
