personal interests sports and gaming pickleball overview
I am continuing to try and improve my skills and keep in shape by playing as often as I can and still work, at least, half days in the office.
Staying strong is important to me because my doctors tell me that even though my prostate was removed six years ago, the cancer is slowly trying to come back somewhere else.
No one seems to know where it is coming back because they cant find it in all their scans etc. In any case, pickleball is my answer to fighting it however I can.
I belong to both the Yachats Pickleball Club and the Newport Pickleball Club and try to play for 2 to 3 hours every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
I feel it helps me both mentally and physically... and, as an added bonus, I've made a lot of new friends.

YACHATS PICKLEBALL CLUB
Our main pickleball venue is the Yachats Commons multi-purpose room. This is the old Elementary School that my administration purchased when I was mayor in 1990.
Unfortunately, it only has room for one court which, during the summer, might be used by up to 18-20 players at a time.
Currently, an architectural firm from Ashland is working on a new "Campus Plan" for the city which would include a new covered pavillion for pickleball.
Unfortunately, the plan is scheduled for the second of three stages which may mean it is 15-20 years down the line.
To speed up this process, several members of our club are going to work on getting financing from a state grant.
In the meantime, our Pickleball Club made an agreement with the local residential community Quiet Water to clean up their tennis court in exchange for
setting up two pickleball courts there that we could use two or three times a week after 9am.
I try to play here on Mondays and Thursdays.

NEWPORT PICKLEBALL CLUB
I am also a member of the Newport Pickleball Club that has over eighty members.
Indoor pickleball is scheduled six days a week at the Newport Recreation Center which has three indoor courts.
In good weather, we play at Frank Wade Park on six permanent outdoor courts.
I try to play here on Tuesday and Saturday mornings and sometimes Tuesday evenings.
